Let's take a question from from the Vision Revolution mailbag.

Michael, you write an impressive letter. I have a few questions for you that may help me. How can I become a true Visionary, when I fail to see how I can have that kind of power? Where do you apply this knowledge you speak of? Suppose I become exactly what you are advocating and get all fired up with a vision. Unless I am a politician, a leader of the government for instance, I have no audience, no one to carry out my orders when I try to change the world for the better. Where do I go from there? You have this business of teaching, but I do not. I can`t get anyone to sit still long enough to discuss any part of what you are advocating. Am I missing a major part of you message, the part that says "You Start Here Ronald:" Anyway I will keep reading your letters and try to find the answers. Thanks Michael.

Hi Ronald, some truly GREAT questions! Let's take them one by one.

Q: "How can I become a true Visionary, when I fail to see how I can have that kind of power?"

If we could all see that we do, indeed, have the power of a visionary, we'd probably ALL be visionaries. The problem lies in seeing, Ronald. It is a catch 22. If you can't see how you could possibly climb to the top of Mount Everest, why would you even try? And, yet, if you developed the skill and experience of a mountain climber, you could see how you could, indeed, climb to the top of Mount Everest.

One thing we as human beings tend to do, largely as a result of our follower-training, is not undertake challenges that we cannot see ourselves succeeding at. We tend to set our sites on the "possible." When choosing which mountain to climb in life, we pick one that we can successfully climb. This is the "responsible" path, the "practical" path. We don't want to be laughed at. We don't want to fail. And so we play small.

The rare few who do pick the biggest, boldest mountain they can find, tend to develop the skill and experience of a great climber. They learn from experience. Soon, they can look at mountains that once looked impossible, and easily see success. They "see" what they couldn't before. Their vision has increased.

So, let's back to the question, "How can I become a visionary, when I can't see how I could have that kind of power?" First, take the Visionary Challenge. Second, get started with the training!

A kid who has never ridden a bike before can't see himself winning a bike race. Sure, he can fantasize about it, but he can't see it happening. Now, give that kid some serious hands on education and training as a bike racer. Now, he can see a lot more. The better he gets on the bike, the more he can see himself winning. Make sense? The second part of your question is essentially this:

Q: "I don't have an organization, a government or a business to carry out my vision; and I've tried sharing my vision with people I know with no success. So, how could I possibly make a difference even if I do become a visionary?"

Once upon a time a man saw some professional tennis players on TV. He said to himself, "That looks like fun. I am going to try playing tennis. Maybe I can become a pro too and make a lot of money." He proceeds to the nearest tennis court, borrows a racket and some tennis balls, and challenges another tennis player to a match. He loses. He tries again. He loses again. Soon, he grows frustrated and is about to give up. He doesn't see how he could become a pro and win a lot of money at tennis.

It comes back to the same thing we talked about earlier. Without training in visionary skills, most people will NOT be able to call the people around them to greatness. They will not be able to lead others with their vision. They won't even be able to share their vision without getting an argument or a blank stare in return. They won't be able to mobilize people into action to achieve the mission.

BUT...!

And it REALLY is this simple: WITH TRAINING AS A VISIONARY, ANYONE CAN HAVE THIS KIND OF INFLUENCE AND POWER IN THE WORLD! That goes for Ronald. That goes for everyone reading these words. Just because human beings have lived and communicated for so long WITHOUT VISION, does not mean we need to continue that way. Just because we have settled conflict with arguments, closed minds and force for so long, does not mean we can not learn to communicate as visionaries.

Without training, without walking the path of a visionary, you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT A VISIONARY SEES. Plain and simple.

The ideal is to be totally self-directed as a creator who takes ultimate responsibility for your life and the world around you.

Far beyond being responsible.

Far beyond being successful.

Far beyond being good.

It's about greatness. True greatness.

The kind of greatness exhibited by heroic visionary leaders who walk their talk, and change the world around them for good.

It goes far beyond setting goals and achieving them.

It goes far beyond keeping your commitments and being in integrity.

It's about being so powerfully directed by your own conscience and vision that you naturally and boldly walk where others fear to read.

You NATURALLY feel called to rise up and take a stand in the world.

You don't limit your goals to what seems possible.

You take on the impossible, and risk looking "out of integrity" or irresponsible" to the world around you.

It is about living by the human compass of honor as your guide.

Not honor as you may understand it. (Honor usually implies a given value system that was not chosen by you. Whether or not you are behaving honorably depends on the value system you are judging yourself by.)

I am talking about the feeling of honor. The feeling you get when you consciously choose to stand for something, especially when there is risk involved.

Many people can only understand this feeling in a spiritual or religious sense. But it is a very natural human emotion.

It is the feeling that calls one to greatness, that calls one into heroic action.

IT IS TIME FOR A NEW VISION AND A NEW MODEL FOR HUMAN BEINGS LIVING LIFE ON EARTH

A new decision-making model for honoring self and one's values. A model for making choices in a way that does not diminish self. A model for being a next-generation visionary.

It really is possible for each person to see see such a vision that there is NO turning back.

I say that this is how we will live in the future.

And our technology for self-guidance must advance forward NOW. Not after nuclear, biological and chemical weapons have become
cheap and widespread across the globe.

No, we MUST learn to live as self-directed visionaries now.

Those of you who have participated in Vision Force 101 or the boot camp, have seen and experienced evidence of real technology for guiding one's self as a visionary.

A visionary mother, a visionary leader, a visionary entrepreneur, a visionary human being taking a stand and being true to a vision for making a difference.

A HIGHER STANDARD FOR YOURSELF

Really it is a higher standard for what it means to be human. It is not enough to be good.

To be a "good citizen," "good Christian," "good husband, father, son, brother," "good student," etc.

Good is not good enough. Good by whose standards?

To truly live by your own natural, heroic vision and the implied standards is what it means to be great. Being great is possible for human beings--truly for all human beings.

And so, "great" should be the standard. Not "good."

"Good" in the eyes of Osama, Saddam or Bush might mean you kill innocent people. "Good" in the eyes of your father might mean you take on a profession that leaves you lifeless, or a marriage that leaves you lifeless... you can be lifeless and good. You can't be lifeless and great.

Self-development, philosophy, religion, etc. can be useful tools in a quest to be good, or at least saved from hell, from low self-esteem or from poverty.

There is a new realm of technology that will be required for us to think and live at the level of individual vision.

Visionary Development, or human development for beings who accept their natural potential as a visionary, and wish to live true to their highest calling and vision.

It is time to call each and every human being to rise up off their knees, and stop just trying to be good or patted on the head for following well, or blindly following. The world needs visionaries.

Our children need us to be visionary leaders, so they can be that themselves.

The time has come for every human being to fulfill their true potential--as a visionary leader.

THE TIME IS NOW!

If you are reading these words now, stand up and step into your full power as a visionary. You can transform your life and the world
around you. Stop trying to be good or better, and commit
to being a visionary. Go all the way.

Visionaries are 100% responsible inside of a relationship. Not 50%.

Visionaries take 100% responsibility for their lives and values.

It is a new model for thinking and living. The Vision Revolution is upon us.

Like it or not, the day is coming when there will be a new standard for what it means to be human.

You can fight it, or accept it.

This is a revolution, after all! A revolution in what it means to bea human being.

Consider this...

Not too long ago when people heard the sound of thunder, they thought the gods were angry. What it meant to be human was not much different from what it meant to be an animal. We were simply smarter animals. Then, some humans learned that if theytold the others that they had some kind of special connection to the gods, that others would follow them.

So, there were leaders and there were followers.

The followers simply had no direct connection to the gods. Fast forward to the Dark Ages. The Catholic Church controlled Europe with an iron fist.

What it meant to be human was to be a lowly sinner. Thinking for one's self, seeking to achieve your personal goals, wealth and money... all these things were evil and sinful (unless you were a Pope or one of his cohorts).

Then, along came a man by the name of Martin Luther, a Catholic priest who, disgusted by the excesses and flagrant abuses of power in Rome, posted his manifesto--his "95 Thesis" on the door of the local church.

This was a sin punishable by excommunication, torture and death. The sin was heresy. Heresy is the sin of thinking for yourself, of following your conscience, rather than blindly obeying the Pope.

Talk about terrorism! The Catholic Church during the dark ages hunted down "heretics" by the hundreds of thousands, tortured them and burned them at the stake.

Martin Luther's manifesto was a defiant stand for conscience. He stood up for human beings, as individuals who could think for themselves and know right and wrong through conscience.

He changed what it meant to be a human being. And that change sent shock waves through the world.

In these days, we think nothing of choosing our own religion or making up our own minds about what we believe about religion and spirituality.

Thank Martin Luther for that. He was a hero for mankind. A visionary.

Fast forward to the Age of Enlightenment, which followed soon after Martin Luther's days. This was when people got the then radical notion that man was basically good, and could guide himself by his own mind and conscience--and thus should be free to do so.

This led quickly to the tyrannical idea of self-governance--that a king held no divine right to control other people--that people themselves have a right to live free, and govern themselves.

And this idea led to revolutions across the globe, including the American Revolution, and other revolutions still under way.

We've come a long way, yes. But, we are in desperate need for another revolution. In fact, this next revolution is coming and there is nothing we can do to stop it. You see, our idea of who we are as human beings is still insufficient--now more than ever.

It allows for us to settle our disputes with violence and war. It makes compromise the norm. It has us resigned to our need for government and others to save us. It has left us fat, addicted, poor, dumbed-down,overconfident, resigned, depressed, fearfuland comfortable.

How many times do you hear this... "YOU ARE ONLY HUMAN."

Only? Only human?

Yes, it is still very much a part of our thinking that who we are as human beings is irrational and self-destructive by nature.

AS IF *THAT* IS WHO WE ARE

If you don't expect anything of a child, if you model irrationality and lazinessto him/her, if you aren't shocked when he acts irrationally or self-destructively, if you don't stand up or speak up when people in your community act this way...

THEN YOUR CHILD WILL BECOME ONLY A SPECK OF HIS POTENTIAL

Your child will be evidence that human beings are irrational and self-destructive by nature. And that will make you feel less guilty about not raising your child to be great. It will make you less guilty or ashamed of your own addictive or irrational behaviors.

HERE IS WHY THE REVOLUTION IS COMING...

The vision revolution is coming because being a follower in times of great change is dangerous. Fear will drive the revolution.

The revolution is coming because those who can lead as visionaries in times of change will gain the power, the wealth and the inner peace that the others are grasping for. Competition will drive the revolution.

The revolution is coming, because commmunications technologies allow us to see the horror and stupidity of war, and of our leader's uninspired compromises. Disgust and self-righteousness will drive the revolution.

The revolution is coming because technology for self-guidance as a visionary is quickly evolving, and those who have the skills to think and lead and live as visionaries will share it with those who are ready--with those who are young--with those who are disgusted with the system. The spirit of youth and the eternal quest for freedom will drive the revolution.

The revolution is coming, because more and more people are witnessing those who they knew to be one way are totally transforming their lives and the world around them. And no other explanation fits, except that there really is technology for causing profound change and that it is possible. A vision of what is possible will drive the revolution.

THE REVOLUTION IS COMING!

Only human??? We still hold fast to the idea that a rare few of us are great, are visionaries, or geniuses.
More and more, we will live in a world where only a rare few of us are NOT great, visionaries, even geniuses.

HERE'S A RADICAL NOTION:

Who we are as human beings is visionaries. We have the potential not just to be good members of society or good people, we have the potential to be great. (more on that later!)

TOMORROW IS UPON US!

Today my brother and I stopped by a computer parts store to pick up a battery for my laptop.

The guy behind the counter was an older gentleman. He told us the story of how they started out selling used computer parts on ebay, and now, 3 years later, it was a family business. Father, son, daughter, and more. In the back room, we could see his son was packaging orders -working for daddy... or so it seemed.

Later, my brother noticed the business cards on the counter. Father was working for son. Not so uncommon anymore, is it?

And so it shall be with the Vision Revolution! The younger generations more and more are grasping hold of technology that gives them more freedom and power--AND THE WORLD ADAPTS TO THEM.

Technology for thinking and living as a visionary is advancing all the time. The youth will be the first to grasp hold and run with it, and the older generations will do their best to catch up. No longer will we have to wait for younger generations to get older before the power shifts to them. No, power will be transferred much earlier. Will you be ready for it?

In addition to mental and psychological technology for being a visionary (and I am not talking about self-help, affirmations, NLP, or any such thing), there are more and more hard technologies--for example, there are software technologies which facilitate the organization and mobilization of people at grass roots level.

I am implementing one next week with my team. It's the next generation of project management, as I see it. The power to manage commitments in a non-hierarchical way. More about that later. Here's another cool technology for visionaries: Podcasting!

If you're not too new to the internet, you've now heard about podcasting. It is a means to broadcast your audio messages to people's iPods! It's not really broadcasting, but broadcasting is a good metaphor.

Che Guevara, an icon to today's youth... many of who do not know who he really was. The recent movie, The Motorcycle Diaries, will likely serve to feed his status as icon.

Those who know Che as a leader of the Cuban Revolution will likely have a position about him. Good or bad. Right or wrong.

What excites me is that while many of today's affluent youth may be ignorant as to the cause of the man whose photo adorns their wall, the spirit of revolution still lives strong with the youth.

Revolution in general. What if we simply had something worth fighting for? Not something to take a position about or something to fight against...

But something to STAND FOR?

What if our children were born inside a context of living their life inside of a Stand, instead of being born into a world where everyone has a position--something to defend against all criticisms, something to blindly support because it is your position?

Children as true revolutionaries. Positive revolutionaries. Trained in the ways of the new breed of visionaries who accomplish their cause with the skills and spirit that evolved from their visionary training?

Those days are coming.
